How often do you do a water change? How much? And how big is your tank?

I've heard weekly to once a month. To 5 percent to 20 percent! So what do you do?

I would just see what works for you.. I've played around, and I found I prefer doing them (well my system does) atleast once a week. I have a 55 gal with 20 gal sump. I do 5 gal water change. Lately I have been doing two w/c's every other week. so last week I did 1 w/c this week im doing two. than one again. I have noticed improvement. I had issues during the spring when I was in college and had lacrosse so I slacked to one every two weeks. Holy algae batman.. But that was my system. Like I said, you may get fortunate and be able to skimp out of them. There are many factors that will actually determine if you HAVE to do w/c like, stock levels of fish, skimmer productivity, how much you feed as you probably know over feeding causes algae... lighting schedule. Like I said and others probably will. Every system is different and you will in time figure out what works for you. Happy reefing!

On our 29 Gallon Frag Tank we do 5-10 Gallon changes once every 2 weeks. All depends on what your tanks stocked with and if your running a skimmer on it. If you dont have many fish and dont over feed them you should be able to do a monthly change no problem. Just watch you Parameters.

Yeah Im experimentin with my water changes now two. Was doing 15 gallons a week on my 60. But now i have gracillia and ulva in my tank, when i find me some cheato Im getting that too. My skimmer pulls a lot too. So now i only do 7 gallons a week. Im a big over feeder and my tank is over stocked while my 120 is being built, so Im maintaining that till my new tank is cycled and ready to go!

Hoping with my 120 and growing plants in my sump that i can just do 10 gallons a week, crossing my fingers!

Back in the days, performing water change once a month approximately 15% was regarded as normal. It was considered IDEAL if you could do it every 2 weeks. Nowadays, many of us are doing it weekly, which is fantastic.
As mentioned above, the frequency and volume of water change really depends on your system - i.e., fish stocking levels, feeding regimen, water quality (RO/DI, tap) etc. I would start out with a general 20% every two weeks to see how your tank appears. Main thing is to keep a level of consistency. Our corals/fish really benefit from stable environments. Good luck!

240g tank- once every 6 months I change 55g. Utilizing a 45g Fuge with Caulerpa, Halameda and Cheato. And I Vodka Dose.
