Water changes

So I have a 20 gal reef tank and I’m only running my protein skimmer I was told by my LFS that I should do 5 gal a week what do you guys think

Base your water change schedule on what you are trying to achieve with them. If you are using them to manage nutrients, schedule your water changes when your testing says you should do them.
