Good afternoon all I have some quick questions. I almost forgot it is a 65 gal tank.
1) When doing water changes do I need to change my bags of carbon? I have 6 bags in 2 HoB filter Marineland Emperor 400 which contains filter floss (I change out regularly), 2 bags carbon in each compartment, and about 2 1.5"x 4" in each compartment (for biological filtration).

I change my carbon about monthly, more often if there is a problem that it might be especially helpful with. I've been using it 24/7/365 for just over 30 years without issue. I buy it in bulk (5g bucket) from BRS.

I replace every 2 weeks now after a dino episode. I used to change monthly using passively in my sump. I believe the BRS/WWC method is every 2 weeks.

I used to run carbon all the time in my tanks and change them out every month, but after watching several videos on the use of carbon and learning that it only lasts about two weeks, I now only use it for two weeks and then remove it and run without carbon for the other two weeks. I haven't noticed any difference doing it this way and even if the carbon doesn't hurt if you are leaving it 24/7, my OCD prevents me from leaving it in the tank if it isn't really doing anything. Either way, changing it every two weeks or once a month are probably both solid options. Pay attention to your tank and you will create your own habits based on what is best for you.

I change mine about every 2 to 4 weeks. If I am adding new corals I change it out before they go in.
