Hey guys, so I am new to this forum and new to the hobby. I have had my salt water set up for 3.5 weeks now. And have been thoroughly testing my parameters everyday.
through my cycling I never had any spikes in ammonia, nitrite or nitrates. I did see diatoms form and disappear that’s about it. My LFS suggested I was in the rightpath and I could start Adding fish. I started off with a snail, then added emerald crab, Scarlett crab and some other little crab ( during the diatoms stage). On week 2 I added a regular orange clownfish and a gsp . Monitored the water parameter everyday after the fish and still read 0,0,0. Again I bothered the LFS they said what are you worried about. A week later I bought a mocha storm clownfish and 6 more corals. Continued to test my parameter and nothin. 0,0,0. I have a 20g nano tank with 2 pumps for flow and a power head for more flow. A tunze protein skimmer, carbon filter and another sock filter. Yesterday I recieved this product called reef roids, Coral food. The reviews were 5 star but most stated watch in spike of ammonia’s and nitrate.
today my corals looks AMAZING but again no change in my parameters.
do I do a water change weekly? I still haven’t done any. My water is clear and looks great, I get diatom blooms every now and then but shortly disappear. I have read that if you don’t need to don’t do water changes. I am far from perfect so I feel there’s no way I am not getting any type of fluctuation in my testing.

Welcome to R2R!!!

I would take a sample to the LFS and have them test is as well, and if it still test at 0 then no need for a water change yet. Water changes are done for other reasons though as well. Its to replenish the Alk, Cal, Mag, and trace elements. You will need to start to test for those as well for the corals. I would try to get your nitrates and phosphates up to detectable levels. Don't rush to raise them as nothing good happens from doing things quickly in this hobby. I would see if the fish and the reef roids will raise the levels first. :)

I have been thinking I would do just that, take the LFS for them to test aswell. I will also do some homework and begin to test for alk,cal and mag aswell. Thanks billdg
