Howdy folks, Cathics here with a question regarding water clarity.

First, a little background info,

I recently set up my 75g back up after over a year of it having been broken down. The sand was washed several times and sun bleached, same for the rock. I then set up the sand and rock structure after a water test, and let it sit in fresh for about 3 days running while I checked the plumbing. Afterwards, I drained the the tank and sump, and refilled it with fresh saltwater.

Here we are, a little over 10 days or so and there is still a noticeable haze when you look lengthwise down the tank. It's much less noticeable from the front but I'm still looking for some suggestions on helping the water to clear.

Now to answer as many questions as possible before people post. The setup uses a BubbleMag 5 skimmer, trigger34 sump with 2 filter socks, and a dual reactor with carbon running currently. No livestock at all, lights are two Kessil a360x sitting about 8 inches up. The tank itself has a good look to it, and the water does seem clear from the front. There is no color associated with the hazing slightly milky, if I had to give a description.

Thoughts, ideas?

Thanks for the reply, I considered algae bloom. I'll replace the socks with a smaller micron and see if that helps any.

Eh, algae bloom would be more greenish brown. If its white its either particulates in the water, or a bacteria bloom. If it is a bacteria bloom you will most likely need a UV sterilizer or some chemical to add. Or wait it out a few weeks.

A lot of people keep some 100 microns handy for after tank cleanings and so forth because it kicks a lot of stuff up. Personally I only run 100 Microns, but I do have to change them out every 2-3 days.

As others have said, bacterial bloom. I only know that because I had one with my newish system. I was advised to wait it out, maybe 3-4 days or get a UV sterilizer. I got a all-in-one UV sterilizer and it cleared up in a day. I got the 9 watt, but there is one a little larger if you decide to go that way. GL

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll keep waiting it out and see what happens. There is a slight odor associated with it right at the top of the tank. Doesn't smell foul, it just doesn't smell like saltwater should.
