How much you wanna spend??? A atb 1050 would be perfect...
Or for a budget skimmer I would check out bubble magus bm200P
at this point it doesn't matter too much I've gone this far I might as well dig the hole:)
I will check into those.

well I have only been emptying my cup once a week and its only a quarter full when I do.

If you're only emptying your cup once a week, you could try to do wetter skimming before splurging for a bigger skimmer. Raise the level of the return on the skimmer to make a wetter skim.

I have a MRC MR-2 also and it is an amazing skimmer. The only down side that I see with them, is they can be very picky about any debris at all in the becketts. But the nice thing about them is how easy it is to adjust from wet to dry skimming.

yes but there is a big differance in your becket and his little needle wheel

The water is clearer this morning I guess due to the water change, carbon and socks. I already had to pull the sock off and change it and when I did the skimmer went nuts and filled the cup up with clean water? why is it doing that? I have decided to buy a new skimmer I am tired of the headeaches
I have a total of about 240 gallons of water so what rating would you recommend for that size water volume?
here is one I am looking at the Aquarium Specialty I am also looking at reef octopus.

might checkout reeffiltration.com.. its luke33 site he is here on forums and has some realy nice skimmers i just bought a swc cone 160 from him and hope to have it all plumbed in and running in next few months.... waiting on remodeling. but a couple buddies have the 160 cones and love them they pull some nastiness. just go to search and type luke33 and it will bring up all his posts, his site is in his signature

I was off line yesterday most of the day. The skimmer looks like it is home made, I do not know what you meant on the skimmer that you opened up the valves all the way. I would still try a larger pump like a 700-1000 gph flow for the skimmer. My skimmer is about 4-5" in diameter, and about 18" high with the cup on it.

Before you go to the expense of a new skimmer, what is the the tds of the water you are using for water changes and make up water? you might be adding to the problem if you are not using rodi water, or the fact that the filters on the rodi need replacing. the second thing i would try is how much carbon are you using? and what kind, i have had good results with brs carbon and gfo. using their caluator is easy and it saves you from using too much and wasting money. the tird thing i would try is moving mp40s around, yes you want to keep things moving but, too much flow in one place, can stir things up too much..you can always get the new skimmer, if everything fails to correct the problem.

FWIW I run a MRC2 dual beckett skimmer. The beast skims like crazy, but I still needed filter socks to get the water "particulate free"...
