Water cloudy and hard white spots on glass

Anyone know what it might be? I was going to clean it off but I don't know if that's the best thing to do...

They're too small...just looks smudgy when I tried. They're about the size of a dull pencil

No. I think it might be calcium but the water is cloudy so I don't get it. Could it be 2 different things

Are those snails?

No they are worms, spirobid worms to be specific. They are harmless and for the cloudy water, it sounds like a bacterial bloom so you can add carbon for a short time to clear up the water.

is this a newly filled tank?
Do you have sand? After filling the dust from the sand will cover the walls in a white film that cleans off easy

+1 on spirobids. Simply remove with old credit card. They feed off suspended particles in tank

My tank is over a year. I've never used carbon before... how do I do it?

Carbon I am familiar with comes in a mesh bag meant to be put in an area of high flow such as an HoB filter. Pretty much just rise it very well prior to use and plop it in the tank. Should start working pretty fast.

Can also add it to a media reactor if you have one.

Caution is required if you have fish susceptible to HLLE, as carbon, specifically low quality carbon is allegedly a trigger for it.
