I have been looking for this answer in other posts, but as of yet have not found a clear answer.
Question: How does water depth effect skimmer?

I have changed the water height in the sump higher and lower and have not been able to come up with best height? Can't tell for sure if it makes any difference in the foam produced or not...so I just picked a height of 9" deep water on skimmer.

What should I look for, or expect when water height is changed?
I would like to get a thicker foam, ... ?
Can you change the texture of the foam by changing the water height or is foam texture controlled by the pump?

Its gravity, water depth matters but yes both play apart it looks like your getting sum good skimming and foam though I'd say it's prefect. I play with my skimmer everyday to get it going again

In most cases a dept for the skimmer is given.
If you can't find it any more by Google the type and brand of skimmer you have it's going to be tough.
It all has to do with the ultimate contact time between air and water in order to get a perfect skim.
if I look at your pic I see you running it to wet or your water level is to high.
That stinky skim stuff needs to look dark close to black.
