Need little help....was woundering what was the water evap per day on some of your guys aquarium....

on my 30g, I put in about a bottle of water worth back every other day. On my 10g evaporation is crazy, I top it off all the time

I have a 90 G DT and 40B sump and top off between 1 to 1 1/2 gallons per day with an ATO.

Welcome to R2R!
10 gallon fish qt needs 4-8 oz per day
20 gallon coral qt needs 8-16 oz per day
90 gallon + 20 gallon sump needs 64-96 oz per day

I recently marked my RO reservoir so I could answer this question. I logged the date, time, and reservoir water level from a full 9 gallons down to 1.5 gallons and got a consistent 1.3 gallons replaced per 24 hours. I estimate my water system volume to be 125-130 gallons. Side note: tank/system volume is sort of a bummer when you account for glass thickness, rock/sand, etc. My tank is 6'x2'x19", and I have a Trigger 39 sump. The tank measurements calculate to 142 gallons but when you account for 1/2" glass all around and on the bottom, the empty tank is more like 131 gallons. When I figure my sump level and run the calculators for rock/sand, I'm only left with 125-130 gallons of water in my system.

IN my 300 gallon system evaporates approx 6 gallon a day

Thanks to everyone....so im not leaking then ..i was getting worried for my 90 gallon im on around 1 gallon per day....thanks again....

You can normally tell quite easily if your tank is leaking ....a good tale tale sign ... the floor is wet !!!!:p:p:p:D

Typical evaporation that most folks see is 1-3% daily. :)

On my 75g DT I use a gallon+ a day depending on ambient temperature. My 15g coral QT uses maybe a quarter gallon if that a day. Hotter days more, colder days less.

My 300 gallon system varies by ambient temp and humidity but I would say 1.25-2 percent a day.

Very little, my tank is 90 gals. I have a 6 gal ATO with Tunze osmolator, last about 10 days. I have 2 x Kessil A360WE, external return pump. Three 800 gph Hydor powerheads and a MP40W. I don't use a heater and my tank runs 74.6 degrees. House temp is 70 degrees. I do a 5 gallon change weekly.

Try topping off a 1 gal and not having a refractometer and not knowing if you lost saltwater or it evaporated out

its also possible to make reefs that do not evaporate. I had one for about 3-4 yrs and there are a few more that are 2.5 gallon nano size on googs. that's convenient for lots of reasons... it used to be that only tiny reefs could be made that way...sealed equals heat accumulation from power compact and halide type lamps, so you needed a tank small enough that a big fan could blow across it all to cool it

with LED's, that's no longer required. We could make a non evaporating reef of any size now, but that's for next decade when it w be seen as totally new reefing heh. regarding gas exchange, we accounted for that. sealed reefs still have accessible lids that can lift, they run sealed in the interim between system maintenance, and during system maintenance the refreshment takes place, not very complicated at all. internal refugiums and algae scrubbers do gas exchange just fine/skimming etc where applicable even though that starts to decrease the truly sealed nature, there's many a hedge on evaporation left in reefing to employ I do promise. I grew tabletop acropora in a reef that never veered from .023 and not a drop of freshwater was added over its life.

on a 240lt tank I loose about 1 - 2lt on a daily basis thru the summer ( I live in the UK ) I go thru a 25lt tub every 2 weeks or so
