This might be a dumb question......but, how do you know if there’s too much flow in your tank? I have a 40 Breeder with two 850gph wavermakers and 1 250gph wavemaker. My clowns seem to love the current but don’t really swim in the middle of the tank and I’m worried it’s becuase the current is too strong. Is there a general rule of thumb or wavemaker position to follow?

Thanks gang!

Clowns are weird. Looks like you have pretty fine sand, if it was too much your sand would be all over the place.
As you get more coral you may have to adjust positioning, just to make sure the no particular coral is getting blasted

Yeah the sand is a pain to keep from blowing everywhere. Seems like I’ll fix it and move some rock around then come out the next morning to sand dunes!

If your power heads are not speed adjustable, you can try moving them higher up and pointing them at each other. You will get more of a turbulent flow than a current type flow. Some fish do not swim out into fast currents. Some love it. So if your clowns are not swimming out in the open, it might be too much flow for their liking.

How do others keep their sand from moving all over place, but still get enough movement to keep food/waste building up on the bottom? It is just a fine line of balance?

20 min after feeding my power heads run at a very fast pace for 30 min. 1 x per week I blow off everything with a turkey baster.

I’ll give that a shot and see how the fish react. They are fairly new to the tank I just took them out of QT and out them in DT this weekend.
