Hey guys I have my Hanna checkers coming in on Tuesday and wanted to know what kind of water your using with them? I want them to be as accurate as possible so probably not rodi water. I've heard of getting lab grade distilled water from a pharmacy but no luck so far finding that. What are you using and where do you get it? Thanks

I always put tank water in them. I think that’s the point.

Why do you think you need distilled water?

Lol this is true. I should have specified for cleaning. I have read threads from people using these as well as from Hanna themselves that cleaning the curvettes (especially for the calcium checker) should be done with distilled water because any traces of calcium left from rodi or tap water will throw off the test results

If your RODI system is working correctly, there will be no advantage to using distilled water. In fact, a fair amount of water sold as "distilled" isn't really distilled - it's RODI.

I think that's what Hanna said too (rodi is fine when the filters are new), and yes I agree about the distilled, that's why I'm looking for lab grade or something truly distilled. So I take it everyone is just using rodi then?

I rinse mine 4-5 times with tap water and then 3-4 times with RO/DI from spray bottle used only for this purpose. Never had any problems with repeatable results or the units. Replace the cuvettes if they get scratched ($8 for two). My results have always been spot on with ICP testing (those that are on ICP).

I think you guys misunderstood and to clarify what hannna checkers are you talking about because some you have to zero out first.

Yes that will throw off your calcium readings, Make sure it’s distilled with little to zero calcium, if you check what your water is in your town and see the calcium levels and there aren’t any then you can use your own rodi water

I buy the distilled at walgreens for the calcium test. rodi for cleaning everything.

Is this a bottled drinking water or what exactly is walgreens distilled water packaged as?

Labeled as "Distilled Water" .. If I remember correctly the instructions for the Hanna Calcium Checker specify "Distilled"

Ok so I picked up a gallon of this at the drug store for $1.39. It tests at 0ppm on my tds meter. Should I test it for calcium or am I good to go (I know I'm probably over thinking this but the Hanna checkers aren't cheap and I want them to work perfectly)?

Your over thinking this. Distilled is a good idea for calcium test. Rodi for cleaning.
