I have a dehumidifier in the fish room that pulls about 4-5 gal of water a day out of the air -- I know, a lot. Between the in-wall DT, fuge & sump there is 750 gal in the room and the system evaporates a lot every day.

My question is: would that water be essentially the same as what I get out of the RODI system and be usable for me to feed back into the system via the auto-top-off? I would seem that I could feed it back in, thought I should get responses from some of you who actually know before I just start doing it.

I would think not honestly. You're pulling water out of the air with dehumidification. Theoretically, you would also be pulling any aerosols or other airborne contaminants with it. If it was me, I would not do it.

Great thought! I may take some from my dehumidifier this weekend and run some tests on it to see...

Usually along with the water dehumidifier take out impurities int he air like dust and dirt. Have you ever seen the water that comes out. Well since you have so much evaporation you might not notice the impurities. Definitely check it with a pinpoint tds meter first. I wouldn't recommend it

that's why I asked first... thanks, guys...

because I also have to do 45 gal water changes weekly, I had this brain fart that maybe I could reuse the dehumid water water to give the RODI system a break... oh, well... it was a thought.

I agree, no.... but if you had a way of running it through the ro/di I wouldnt see why not to give your well/ city water bill a break lol

I wouldn't even chance it, if it were me. It's better to use the water for your plants. I do this with the waste water from my RODI unit to help save some money on the water bill. Only trick is how your going to run a line to an out door holding tank of some kind. It's much more "green" to recycle the water rather than just letting it go down the drain, but it's a job in itself and not everyone has the ability, time, or resourses to do it....
Just my input, if it helps any :)

Thats a great Idea too ^.... but what about in the winter I know it freezes outside in ohio too, do you have issues then or do u just run it down the drain or something else then?

I just did a Tds test on my dehumidifier water and got a reading of 19 .

Then I tested for phosphate and .....

Most dehumidifiers use copper coils to work. I wouldn't put that water near a reef tank even after rodi
