water heater question here please

I'm curious. I did a water change today and the temperature went up a little. Does the heater recognize this and stop heating until the temp is brought back down to my "set temperature"?

Correct. It should only kick on when the temperature is lower than the set point

Yes. I freaked out when this happened in one of my small tanks. Was running a much bigger heater than needed and temp got up pretty fast immediately after changing water.
