Hey guys, this even seems a little silly to me but figured I’d ask.

I have two 65gallon containers I want to hold water in. They were previously used as pickle storage. Long story short I’ve cleaned them with all the safety products I can, they are certainly clean but… they reek of pickles still…

do you think whatever is leftover causing the smell could harm the water and in turn the reef?

I would generally agree this is dumb but I didn’t know if any trace elements in the pickle process could specifically harm coral haha..

anyway, thanks for input.

Well, pickling lime is calcium hydroxide.....aka, Kalkwasser. Assuming the containers are some form of Polyethylene, I don't see a problem. I'd use them in a hearth beat.

Thanks. Yea I’m pretty sure they are fine since they are food grade. Anyone local to North Florida hit me up if you want some, this guys sells them for $60 each and they are very nice, screw on top with a wide opening.
