Water kind of yellow cloudy

Can any one please help me my water is starting to show a little yellow cloudiness I did a 20% water change yesterday but it didn’t start turning this color until I started adding 5 margerit snails, 3 scarlet hermits… so far I have 2 clown fish, 1 diamond gong and one flametail blenny and the previous inverts I added… I checked my parameters and my ammonia is at 0.01 my PH is 8.36 my salinity is 1.026 my temp is at 78 degrees

I admittedly don't know much as I haven't even set my tank up yet but I do remember BRS touching on this in their 5 minute guide series. It's common and is basically a build up contaminants or impurities. The way they address it is with Carbon. I'm sure there are other ways or maybe even causes, but this is what I can recall.

I agree with the above @Aaron75 ; running carbon should address yellowish water.

Thank you for that information I will try that method I just turned on my UV lights but I do not want to harm any good bacteria also with the UV

Okay I will try this method like I said earlier I just started to turn on my UV light but am afraid of leaving it on for too long in case I harm any of my good bacteria build up. What type of carbon do you suggests?

The UV is fine to use temporarily while the tank is cloudy. Cloudy water = bacterial bloom, Yellow or tinted water = things that carbon removes


PS cycling bacteria is not in the water column if that is what you are concerned with

Usually in new tanks they can get bacteria blooms that cause the cloudiness. Run carbon as the above said and how do you make your saltwater RODI? If it is make sure to keep a good amount of waves or water at surface going to keep oxygen levels up. Otherwise use carbon and don't touch your tank for 2- 7 days.

What filtration are you using, if it's a cannister filter you can always add carbon (in a bag/net provided) to it or buy a hang on carbon filter whilst your cycling

Why not? Many do, myself included and don't look back! when the bulb burns out I notice the difference in water clarity/algae so its got a built-in reminder to re-order when the bulb burns out.

Okay awesome thank you for that information! Also I am using the Aquatop Forza FZ7 which has a carbon filter included in it, just curious what could possibly cause this crazy algae bloom

Could be a micro algae bloom. I would have said bacteria but the tinge of color made me think algae.

Looks like a bacterial bloom which is a condition in which a sudden increase in the number of bacterial colonies occurs, specifically bacteria that are suspended in the water column. The bacteria grows so rapidly that collectively they become visible to the naked eye, causing the water to become milky/cloudy/hazy in appearance. This condition most often is seen in a newly started aquarium, but can also occur in a tank in which there is has been an increase in the nutrients in the water, particularly nitrates and phosphates. Excessive feeding of fish without cleaning the debris can also cause a sharp increase in nutrients that results in these blooms .
Over carbon, water changes are most effective as well as adequate filtration.
