I had a blow out on my return pump flooded my front room. Talked my wife out of making me sale the tank. But If it happens again it's gone. I have a rkl with ls1 was wondering if there is a sensor I can put under the stand that when water touches it, it turns off my return pump? I looked online but have no idea what I am looking for.

Look at the Water Bug sensors, they can be used to connect to a controller, in which can turn off your pump.

I wonder how many people are using sensors like these?

I just where no shoes around the tank, wet socks tells me right away if there is a leak. My nickname around the house is waterboy and I have a Tshirt to prove it.
For water alarms
Water Level, Leak, Flood Sensor, USWLS
Winland Electronics WB-200 WaterBug Water Sensor - Smarthome

Its also a good idea to invest in a carpet shampoo machine that will pick up spills and blow heated air to dry the carpet, then you can tell the wife she is getting her carpet cleaned
I have this one

I have a water sensor hooked up to a breakout box on my apex, but I'm not sure what's required to connect to a RKL. I'll see if I can find some more info for you...

I'm assuming you meant that you have a System Lab 1 expansion module? That has two switch ports which is what you'll need to hook the "pigtails" from a water sensor into. I'm not too familiar with the programming for Digital Aquatics controllers, so I can't advise you on programming code, but I'm sure one of the controller pros will chime in to help with that. This is the water sensor that I use and has served me well:
Water Level, Leak, Flood Sensor, USWLS

Thanks for the input! I was thinking that sensor would work but didn't know. I have fixed the problem with the hose and will be getting a smaller return pump soon. I have a 1300gph pump now going to a 700.
