Any advice on how to control the water level in my tank? Ideally I'd like to drop it about 1/2" because the bottom of center brace is about that much under the water.

The center brace definitely shouldn't be under water. If using an overflow, check for clogs/algae/snails, something.. couple with this the return flow. If you are pumping more water than the overflow can handle, disaster is just around the corner

A diagram of how your plumbing is set up would help us figure out the best way to solve this issue. It could be flow or the standpipes like previously mentioned, or it could be the overflow box itself was installed high. Either way, the potential for flooding is very high.

I think I figured out the problem. The teeth in my return were clogged. I cleaned them out and that seemed to do the trick. Does that make sense?

Actually it helped but didn't 100% fix the issue. The water is still barely touching my brace in a couple spots. Another thought is that I'm using a Vectra pump. I've been running it at close to 100% but I could cut it back. Also, I do have a sump and twin returns in each corner.

I would try and turn down the pump and see what happens, also clogged teeth in your overflow will do it also.

I did both and it's still barely touching, maybe 1/8 - 1/4". I'm not sure what else I can do because the water level is only about 1/2" above the bottom of teeth.

Can you put in some pix of the overflow, drains, sump. Maybe seeing what the set up looks lke may give some more ideas
