As water evaporates from the aquarium the water level in the sump will get lower. Most people use an automatic water top off unit like a Tunze to keep the water level stable in the sump. The tank will always be full due to the return pump. The only other possible problem could be your drain is to small for the water pump volume.

Should I add water?

Welcome. Yes you should add water. Just add RODI water to the sump. As water evaporates you will need to add RODI water. Your salinity will stay the same since salt does not evaporate. Like lemon said an auto topoff is the way to go.

Here is how to adjust the Running water level in your sump..

Turn on your pump and all other equipment with water in them. Such as skimmer media reactors and so on.
Add or remove water from the sump to just above the Above your pump so that it is not sucking air.. Make this spot as your Min water level..

Now Turn off your pump and Equipment and let it settle..
You can see how much water Drained back .
Add water to the sump up to the highest safe level. and mark this level as MAX POWER OFF LEVEL.
Turn all pumps and equipment back on. Once the Water level in the tank stabilizes Make this as your Running level. This is where you want to set your ATO TO ..

Hope this helps.

one thing if this level is still to low for normal operation..

You need to adjust the amount of water draining back. either by raising the Return up to top of the water, Drill a anti siphon hole in top of return or other tricks to prevent so much water from draining back. We would have to see your setup to determine best solutions for this..

Good Luck

Adding water is an industry norm. Consider an ATO which will have a float which detects low water level and will trigger the unit to add water to sump automatically
ATO= Automatic Top Off
