Water Line on Rimless Tank

Hey all,

Any suggestions on ways to get rid of this? I’ve literally soaked it in citric acid, and used a razor blade. It seems impossible to get off.

Photo is the new to me Red Sea Reefer 425 XL I’m trying to clean up.

I had a 125 back in the day that had lines like that, I had to dilute muriatic acid and vinegar and it came off finally.

Try original "Bar Keeper's Friend", which is primarily oxalic acid. It does marvels at removing mineral deposits on aquariums.

I just sprinkle a good amount on a damp sponge, rub the area in order to get a nice froth to cover, let it sit for a minute, scrub with a coarser sponge, then rub and wash surface with the soft sponge again. Rinse out the tank to avoid acid deposits and you should be good to go.

Wow, I've never had Bar Keeper's Friend fail on mineral deposits before, even the toughest, so I'm surprised. Did you let it soak very long with the acid, or just wipe it off after a minute? I think I left the acid on the stains longer when I was cleaning my 125-g tanks, as the waterline deposits were pretty bad. Use plenty of powder to get a good froth of acid on the stains.

Also, what type of sponge are you using? I just use a typical dish sponge with a soft side and coarse scrubbing side. Initially, I rub on with the soft side. After letting it sit, I use the coarse side. When doing the final clean and rinse, I switch back to the soft side. None of this should cause any harm to the glass unless you catch calcareous sand particles in the sponge (should be unlikely if the tank is clean?).

I'd recommend trying again. Otherwise, the deposit might be some mineral that does not react with acid?
