Just testing water this morning . System has been running 10 weeks. Temp 77.5 SG 1.025 Ammonia 0 Nitrate 10 Phosphate .10 PH 8.6. No corals yet just fish, snails and shrimp.

I was pleased to see the nitrates come down as they were stuck at 25. But now the PH has me somewhat concerned. It was running 7.9-8.0 for a while. I use a Hanna Checker. I did open a couple small vent windows in the basement where the sump is to help with the heat. Should I be concerned ? Was planning on about a 10% water change tomorrow but not sure that will make a difference.

Btw keep in mind that .1 phosphate and 0 nitrate is favorable to cyano (they like some phosphate but 0 nitrate). Make sure to have some nitrate such as 5ppm (how much depends on the test kit). As for pH, 8.6 is suprising. Do you dose anything in the tank?

Ph is fine. In a new tank it will move around as stuff grows, weather changes ect

Not really. Just frozen mysis and flake. I do add a little phytoplankton every now and then, into the refugium , as I'm trying to build a pod population.

What pH test do you use?

You can maximize your PH potential by maintaining great surface water movement, taking in outside air into skimmer, and blow a fan across the surface……no need to follow or measure.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
