Water storage container bulkhead leak

I have two 65g norwesco storage tanks. The actual bulkheads are NOT leaking but the fittings going into them are, but very slightly. I used Teflon tape on them when first installing. Would removing them, re doing the tape, then maybe adding Silicone help?

Bulkhead it 1-1/4" which means 1" fitting on the inside which is threaded and then my piping is 3/4" which means another reducing fitting. Pic below (where it's white is where it's leaking).

yes, and there is a trick to proper wrapping, just in case u don’t know:
hold the fitting in your left hand with the threads facing right; now wrap backwards so the tape goes in the opposite direction of the twist. This way it tightening the threads tightens the tape..

Did that - how many layers?

Also one way to state it is hold fitting in your left hand and wrap the tape clockwise

Tape is not recommended on plastic threads. Use thread sealant. I like Megaloc brand.

Are you using regular cheap white tape? The much thicker grey or blue tape works better and really isn't a whole lot more expensive because the rolls are so much bigger.

Yea, I'm not sure why I tried tape, in my defense it was 1am lol. You helped me with the bulkhead under my tank. Welp, switched over to the T+2 this morning and no issues... Go figure. I obviously didn't learn lol
