I made about 20g of salt water on Sunday 8-11-13 but did not get around to doing my water change. I have a heater and power head in the container, how long can I keep that water before it won't be good for my tank anymore?

I always have saltwater mixing just in case. IMO, it depends on the mixing container. Some containers may leach unwanted contaminants into your water. I've always used clear mixing containers and so far haven't had any issues. I generally use it up within a week, sometimes 2 weeks.

A while actually. I have salt mix on hand at all times. I keep a lid on it in hopes it won't evaporate certain things but its usually only about a week before I use it.

Okay, I plan on doing the water change in the next day or 2 so I should be fine thanks :)

Yeah you'll be fine for sure. As long as it is aerated it won't get bad. I'm not sure how significant this is but I have been wondering myself:
Clean water stores for a while. Wasps are pretty big. I have some that like to get in my fish room...which made me wonder if they get into the storage container will they rot and cause a cycle? Just makes me think. Keep your container away from large bugs I guess. Haha

I've kept water sitting in my garage for weeks before without any issues for my reef tank. Regarding containers, you want to use food grade/approved types such as BRUTE (grey colored) plastic cans. These will not leach anything to the water.
With some synthetic salts, once you keep it for longer than 24hrs, you may notice a decline in alkalinity. Keep an eye on this. But again, like before, when I got lazy to perform water changes, the water (with powerhead/heater) ran in the garage for weeks before I finally got to doing water change.

I have a 35 gallon brute container that I keep my RODI water in and have a wave maker in there for good measure. When I do my water changes I mix the salt in about an hour before I start. This way it's just pure water sitting in the container at the time. Then I empty the leftover water and start making a fresh batch of pure water.

So this whole thing along with a thread I had posted about maximum salinity makes me think we should create a salt that comes so basic that nothing evaporates but it comes with a spare package of elements removed so you can store saltwater for long times and still have the goodies. Any takers? Lol.
