I have a red sea AIO tank so currently the only thing that is running is the skimmer and return pump. I am not running the lights and have 2 mp10s but thought the whole purpose of those was to not add heat to the tank. Currently the tank temperature is 79.3. The house temperature is 75 and the air conditioner has come on a few times. Is this normal on a rather large difference. The heater is a brand new helio and is set at 77.

Are you running an AC pump? Those can put out some head depending on the size.

Also have you verified your temperature rating with a calibrated thermometer?

I have had new heaters that are off by 2 or more degrees out of the box, I always check with a calibrated thermometer. I have one that needs set to 82 but in reality it's only 79.

as above, it is good to have a reliable thermometer, I have tested some of the digitals all at once and and found 3 degrees spread.

Finally bought a Hanna and rely I this all the time

at any rate consistency in this range is most important

Not sure which kind of pump came with it. I have verified the temperature with a thermometer. Had bought a new thermometer and turned out it was .4 degrees off. My old meat thermometer turned out to be more accurate

I am just worried that once it gets hotter it will just keep going up. During the summer my AC will just run constantly some days. I know it is only up 2 degrees but don't understand why

Sources of heat -
What is your lighting set up?
As mentioned AC pump?

and really need to know what the true temp is - might be you don have the problem you think you do

And in a room that I had that was often 78-80 in the daytime I used evaporative cooling with a small fan blowing across the surface - be ready for RODI top offs

Light may be adding the heat as well as overall room if its getting sunlight
I keep mine at 78-79 which is perfectly fine

Lights have not been turned on. It's the red sea pump. Same as a sicce pump from what I understand. The true temperature according to two different thermometers and the controller is 79.3. Gets morning sun but after that it is in the shade

Is the pump adjustable? If there is no controller for the pump it is probably an AC pump which is what's adding your heat.

Take a look at your pump and the wattage.

I have an AC pump that easily adds 5°+ in my brute mixing container in the basement. Ambient is ~64, after ~24 hours with that pump on I'm ~70
