Hello, I just tested my ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and they are all at the top of the chart as far as the colors go. Is this normal? If not what should the readings be?

I lost my clown so I got a test kit.

It's a 20g HOB 78.5* .026

Any help would be great.

Btw, I am extreamly new to this.

By the top, do you mean the lightest color or darkest color? What test kit are you using?

Besides PH, yes it is normal for all of them to be the lightest color. Ammonia and Nitrite should always read 0 and nitrate ideally should read under 20.

What else should I look at? The mushrooms and leathers are fine. I do not want to get another fish till I can figure out what is wrong.

Thanks again for the help.

Could be lacking sufficient oxygen in the water, but that’s just a blind guess. Pics of your tank might help. Running a skimmer? Have anything like a powerhead/wavemaker in there causing some water surface agitation?

I just thought of something. I lost another clown a few days ago as well. Do you think my other one was stressed out or something because it lost his buddy?

Hello,

This could make me look dumb but I see kind of a pattern here. Your water parameters from what you tell us are in line because they are reading at the light colored end of the api test. But, you lost s clown before, and now again have you lost any other fish? You may have marine ick or marine velvet.

Now with out pics of the fish we may not never know, but if the corals are doing fine and ammonia is at 0 and nitrites at 0 that narrowes it down. If your running a skimmer you should have plenty of oxygen. How did they look prior and how old were they? Did you qt them before placed in the display tank? Any other fish lost recently, other than the clowns? It wouldn’t be a bad idea to let the tank run fallow for 90 days. If you don’t have a uv skimmer I would add one. Sorry for your losses it’s always painful.

15-25% water change every 3-4 weeks.

All I am running is a seachem tidal 55 and a power head with foam.

The lightest colors.
It's api master test kit

I wouldn't trust an api kit as far as I could throw it. Even though I could probably throw it far I still wouldn't. Yes the price sounds good and the name Master Test Kit sounds cool but.......

What is your ph level?

Take a sample to you LFS or get a better test kit. Salifert, RedSea or hanna instruments

The biggest danger to fish outside of diseases is nitrite and ammonia. I am guessing they may have had a disease. I have lost fish in the past, including a couple of clowns for unknown reasons. Sometimes diseases are not all that obvious but params are easy to check.
