I did a water test everything seemed normal just my nitrates jumped from 5.0 ppm to 40ppm I recently cleaned my filter will I need to be worried?

Check your test kit, stay calm. If everything looks normal and the tank is happy don’t let a stray number cause you to destabilize the current situation. Don’t worry, move slowly and make changes at a similar rate. Your tank will do better if you do this.
HTH.

Can you provide more information?

Age of tank, size, livestock, recent changes or anything else you think might be helpful
40 gals, 4 cardinals, 2 clown fishes, 8 blue damsels and 10 damsels( 2 black striped, 4 blue, 4 yellow head the only thing that changed recently was me taking out my hob bakpak and rinsing everything

As I always suggest, confirm your reading by taking a water sample to pet store and have them check on theirs and compare then with your readings

Remember to add that many fish to your new 80 slowly
Even cycled that's a lot of fish to add to a system at once
Slow
