water testing....day 2

I think damsels are a great first fish - hardy, inexpensive, reef-safe, beautiful, little, great pest control, great variety. Green chromis, six line wrasse, lawnmower blenny - also good choices for a first tank.
I have a 90 gallon frag system full of damsels - I love em. Great fish fun to watch.

Yes, I was thinking of doing a 6 line Wrass because I love they way they look. They are about $24 at my LFS and I dont know if they have any damsels for any less than that.

There are tons of fish you can add to a new aquarium that are hardy. Talk to some folks at your LFS. However, as others have mentioned, it is REALLY important to wait until your cycle has completed before adding livestock. Otherwise it is a sacrifice... I never like the idea of using live fish to start/complete a cycle. There is tons of info on the forum about tank cycles and it really depends on what you'd like to do. Some say a shrimp, others will tell you live rock, some will tell you throw damsels in. I have had success using live rock and being patient. This is probably the hardest thing to do now that you have everything going. This is also the reason a lot of people get in the hobby, then instantly shut down there tank. They don't wait for a cycle to complete, add a bunch of livestock at once. They go through the dramatic change of levels, get stressed, and then die. Then you see them posting their entire setup on craiglist or eBay...

Patients is a virtue! Take your time, do things right the first time, and you will be rewarded with an awesome tank!

Welcome to the hobby, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
Wow! such great advise LGangway. Today is day 4 and you are totally right...so impatient now that I have this pretty tank to look at every day. I did my first water change yesterday, about 10% and the tank is looking great. I finally got a reading of about 0.25 ppm on the Nitrites and am at about 10 ppm Nitrates. Ammonia still at 0.25 ppm and pH hovering at 7.8. My temp stays at about 80 all day and night so i hope that is okay. To cure my inpatients I have been buying something new for the tank every other day. Just bought a reflectometer. I purposely didn't buy everything at once so I could just take my time and get everything ready. I guess the only questions I have left is....how much longer??? haha. Thinking of getting a 6 line wrass and some skunk shrimp to start out...thoughts?
