I did a pretty dismal job on the silicone (but hey, it was my first time), but I finally managed to get the baffles in on my 40b sump. I want to make sure there aren't any major leaks. I've moved the sump to my back porch and have filled the first chamber up with the hose. What's the generally accepted duration for leak testing a sump? I know for display tanks, it's recommended to leak test for at least 24hrs. But if I'm just testing the atrocious silicone job on the baffles of a sump? A few hours for each successive chamber? Does it even matter that much?

I would leak test it just like you would test a display tank. Check around the edges of the silicone to make sure none of them are curling up or tearing apart. It may develop leaks in the future, but if the leak is in the baffles, then it's not nearly as bad of a situation and should be fixable.

It would appear that my 1st baffle leaks. How do I fix this? I"ve read that adding more silicone on top of existing silicone is ineffective, so do I have to break out the ol" razor blade, scrape off all the silicone, and start over?
