Okay so a buddy of mine has to tear his tank down due to moving and gave me some live rock a clean up crew and to clown fish I'm on week 4 of the tank cycle so the cycle has not yet been completed I just tested my water and my ammonia is at a .25 PPM and my nitrites and nitrates are both Sky High due to it being Thanksgiving tomorrow my lfs is closed and I will not be able to get RO water but I do have 5 gallons of RO water is it even worth doing a 5-gallon water change also the clown fish seem to be doing fine. I also have been dosing with seed aquavitro

Chances are your reading a false ammonia reading do to nitrites. Corrected.

I would do a water change. Is this the first time you will have done a water change in 4 weeks?
No I've only done one water change and I took about 35% of the water out I only have a 5 gallon bucket filled with RO water so should I just do a 5-gallon water change for now

Yes it won’t lower the levels all the way but it will help some. Should be doing 10-15% per week is what I aim for
Okay thanks will do the 5 gallon water change for now until I get my hands on RO water which will be after Thanksgiving I am new to the Hobby so you're saying to do 10 to 15% water change a week even if all my levels are right?

ideally you don’t want livestock until the tank is fully cycled. but it is what it is at this point. how did you start the cycle? just the live rock? api rest kits aren’t that accurate. i would get a seachem ammonia badge to verify the free ammonia.

do the water change but also verify your ammonia with a seachem badge if you’re not sure about the cycle being complete.

it’s possible you don’t have any free ammonia and your tank didn’t go through a cycle due to the live rock.

Correct. Water changes are key they will replenish the items that corals need. When you get more Corals you might have to add more items but if you have just a clown then 10-15% every week should be fine.

you want rodi water, not ro. and it has to come from a reliable source with 0 tds.

water change size and frequency will be determined by your water parameters, mainly no3 and po4. this is something you’ll have to experiment with.

I started the cycle with dry Rock crushed Coral sand running on a protein skimmer and I'm using seed aquavitro bacteria I just added live rock yesterday

i’m not familiar with seed aquavitro. since you already have livestock in there, i’d get the ammonia badge just to verify your reading.
