I've been testing my water for years, but I never asked about this. When you hold the test tube up next to the measuring scale, should it be touching the paper or be slightly in front of it? The colors are slightly different depending on how close to the card the test tube is. Hope this makes sense!

I know. It drives me crazy too. I finally bought a ph monitor because the test tube tests were too hard to read.

I always keep a 1/4 a inch distance between the card and the vial. It always drove me crazy trying to match the colors. I have changed over to red sea titration test kits type and changed to a ph probe. Even with the phosphate and nitrate red sea test being color matching they are a lot easier.

Thanks! I'm going to convert to Red Sea for some of my tests.

I hold the tubes up to the light to get a more accurate coloration reading.
