Hi Everyone,

I have two clownfish and a clean up crew in my tank currently. I have had them for about 2-3 weeks. I have the red sea marine test kit. I just want to know what I should be testing for every week. Should I always test for ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites? Should I always be testing these every time?

Hi, it really depends on what you plan on keeping in your tank.

Certain corals require certain levels of calcium etc. so it’s important to have a plan going forward instead of your typical impulse buy and figure it out the hard way.

we have all done it, but the longer you do this the more experience you will gain.

Once your tank is fully cycled, which to me it sounds like yours is, ammonia you will only need when an emergency arises. Nitrite you'll never use again, and nitrate is something I like to test weekly along with calcium, magnesium, and phosphate.

Alkalinity I check every couple days.
