What do you guys think of this idea? Mixing water inside with salt in garage and bringing in to pump water in the tank lol?

How many gallons and does it have pump built in?

It’s only 14 gallons and it would be used for a 75 gallon. Gravity would force water through the pump from bottom. Would just run a powerhead or return pump in there to mix water.

maybe could rig a small pump on the outlet where the hose attaches. my curse is wife hating big trash can in the living room over night while making 40 gallons of water.

Yea I would do this is garages and wheel it in lol

I would think tanks made for fuels would be even less likely to dissolve/leach with only salt water exposure.

Because it's not food grade they are typically made of plastics that may be stronger but they aren't "clean" meaning they tend to have a LOT more chemicals that may/can be absorbed by the water. Definitely will have chemicals from the manufacturing process regardless...

Ive used this style storage bin at work to gas up heaters throughout a power plant. Most come stock with a crank style pump that you manually have to turn to get the gas out. Just make sure it’s food grade so you don’t screw up your water.

I wouldn't use it myself, containers made for carrying fuel are usually made of plastics that aren't safe and can leech into your water. Double check the materials used before purchasing it:)
FWIW not trying to be the killjoy of the group lol

No harm no foul. I post things on here to learn and hear others experiences before investing money into it. Thanks for your honest opinion. That was def a thought, I will lol further into it.

Is this yours? How do you like it??

Price difference is pretty significant.

Not mine; just looked it up. I didn't even notice the price but that was the first one I had found and it was from a marine store - they are usually significantly higher than any other retailer. It is also twice as big ans the 14 gallon fuel caddy. Point was that if there is a concern about the plastic grade, look for a potable water caddy instead.

I think it would beat the heck out of carrying buckets.

I wouldn't use this one since it seems to have brass fittings based on user comments:

"No leaks were found and the solid brass fittings assured no spark is possible. "
