After reefing with a 36 bow front with a hob skimmer for four years I think I’ve finally proven to myself I’m prepared to step up to a bigger tank. Better yet, my wife has given the green light too when we move into our new house later this year. I’m totally lost when it comes to sumped tanks so this upgrade is almost totally foreign to me. I’m torn between the two setups in the title, and have chosen them as their dimensions fit with my current lighting(24” photon v2+). It’s a nearly new fixture so I hate to trash it. Can anyone help me see the pros and cons of either one for someone like myself? I like the waterbox 100.3 system as it is pre plumbed and sump is included. I’m a pretty handy guy and building/designing things doesn’t generally scare me, but the hydraulics of plumbing a sump of my choosing intimidates me. I don’t want to flood the house with saltwater. The hurricanes here threaten that enough here in down east NC. I like the little extra volume and the option of external overflow of the nuvo, but it seems I’m on my own engineering the sump side of it. I have also considered a sc 90 cube tank (36x24x24) which would leave me building/engineering the sump and stand. Engineering a stand doesn’t bother me, but the sump still does. Tank will be a mixed reef of mainly lps, zoa, and a couple hardier sps. I settled on the 75-90 gallon size as it meets the upkeep demands I’m willing to take as well as the fish stocking desires I have. If someone could point me towards some good literature on the plumbing and design of a sump I’d be more inclined to try something other than the waterbox. Any input is greatly appreciated...
