Hello everybody,

I need help. My lfs store has suggested to buy sand shifting star to clean the sand. I purchased it but after I read that actually might do more harm then good. Thank is three months old. Should I take it out?
Please let me know.

Thank you all,

I personally would take it back.

They eat the microfauna in your sandbed. Once thats depleted(will happen very fast in your small tank), they starve to death and eventually die.

The problem is that lfs store is very far away. I will have no option to take it back. The only think I can do is to take it out and let it die before consumes all positive stuff in the sand bed. I definitely don’t know what to do....

I would just leave it be then. Once it dies(horrible I know), the microfauna in your sandbed will replenish themselves. They just do not do this fast enough is your small tank to keep the star fed.

You can tell it's on its way out, or starving if it starts climbing your glass, or you start to see pieces of it missing.

I will never again buy something without researching it first. It’s horrible to know that it will die rather way. So sad to watch.
Thank you for your answers.

Maybe another reefer can take it for you?

Not good advice from that LFS!
