I ordered a waterbox 20gl yesterday to set up as a rfa tank. Has anyone installed a protein skimmer with this tank? Is the pump it comes with sufficient or should I look for a mini powerhead to go with it?

You can, but with a RFA tank, I'm not sure you really need one. I have a Tunze in tank skimmer in my 16g 'spare' tank with just a HOB filter and I keep some corals and some RFA's in it. But to be honest, I probably wouldn't have bought the skimmer on my own. I won it in a contest here at R2R. And I have to admit, it does work pretty well for such a small skimmer.

If you haven't seen it yet, you might look at this RFA thread:

It has a lot of good info from people with lots of RFA's and quite a few have even had RFA's breeding! And feel free to join in on the thread and ask questions, or share your knowledge.

How much sand in the tank. Should I use less than 2 inches for an RFA tank?

How do you keep the "oil slick" from forming?

Oil slick?

Before I had the skimmer, and even now with the skimmer, I keep one small wavemaker high on the side of the tank and point it such that when it's on (every other minute) it's seriously disturbing the water surface and mixing anything that might collect there (like an oil slick) with the rest of the tank. But a skimmer in the tank does work well for this purpose as well.
