Waterbox 20g return pump and bulkhead questions

Today is day 5 of my 20g Waterbox being setup. Since day one I’ve been having issues with the return bulkhead being stripped and not being able to attach its self to the return line and. What can I replace the return bulkhead with? This part of the tank is a really annoying.

Can you rephrase for a little more clarity and possibly include some photos of your issue. I just can't wrap my head around what are the exact issues just yet.
