Hi all so I’m starting my first reef tank. Did a bit of freshwater when I was younger and now want to get into something more interesting. I was originally planning on starting with a 40 breeder with hang on back equipment as im in a 3rd floor apt and a 3’ tank fits really nicely in the room. Instead I ended up finding a used waterbox 70.3 from a local reefer on the local reef forum for a pretty good price so that was pretty sweet.
So now I need to clean it up and get on with the project. I had some fun with the aquascape I know I don’t know much about what I’m doing yet so I’d love to see what you guys think if there’s any suggestions from you guys there. Also if you guys have any tips for cleaning the overflow in the back. There’s some sand from the previous owner in there and my arm doesn’t fit to scoop it out.

That’s a sweet tank. Take us along on the journey of putting it together, making sure we see LOTS of pictures! Oh…. And welcome to the reef!!

Going to post up some more pictures tonight but I’ve had water in the tank for a few weeks now trying to get through a fish less cycle which is taking a bit longer then I expected with Dr.Tim’s. I’m trying to do all captive bred fish and corals in the tank as I don’t want to take anything out of the ocean I don’t need to especially as I’m just learning and may not give the fish as good of conditions.

Pair clowns black and white snowflake

dwarf spotted file fish

Yellow watchman gobby

Red Sea mimic bleny

Yellow watchman gobby

Cleaner wrass?

Mandarin ( not till late)

Tail spot blenny ( not sure if you can get these captive bred)

Dwarf angle? ( thinking flame back)

Court jester goby

What do you guys think of this list for stocking? It may be too many fish but I’ll add them slow and see how my filtration handles it and how the tank looks.
the local fish store ordered the first three fish on the list and are holding them for me during the cycle.

Nice setup. Good luck with new hobby!

Will b watching. Good luck with the cycle

Well first fish is in the tank! Yellow watchman goby. Been in there about five days and has been eating. He seems to have paired with his pistol shrimp who I know was in the burrow the goby is in now, but I haven’t seem his antennae in a day or so. I have heard his pistol though so he’s still kicking. Couple snails and a Halloween hermit added as well.
