Waterbox 7225 Chicago SPS Reef

The reefs relaxed and looking good. Pleasant surprise after a vacation :)

That is quite the forest you have going there! Holy smokes.

I can plainly see you need my help. I'll be right over with my bone cutters and buckets.

Wow! Amazing! Can you tell me more about your Kalk reactor? Do you use a dosing pump or is it connected to your ATO? Would love to know what you're getting for ph. Also that Parrot fish is awesome! You've got me looking for one now! Any tips for quarantining it?

Thanks @ajjw0828 !

avast k1stirrer. Dosing pump runs every half hour all day, pumping fresh water into the reactor. Fully saturated kalkwasser then enters the sump.
Essentially it replaces up to around 90% of your ATO’s workload. It’s a game changer and is so simple and easy.

I recommend getting the parrotfish from a professional quarantine specialist like Marine Collectors. These fish should be properly QT’d, if you receive a quality specimen it will reward you. If not, they can perish away in 6-8 months.

Last day of 2020! Here’s to a new year of hope and optimism and healthy reef tanks!!!

Beautiful pics as always!

Agreed. On to 2021...

My kids gave me this shirt for Christmas. They both graduated (virtually) from college this year so this C19 thing has been a significant bummer for them. But at least they (and I) found some humor in this. Gotta find something to laugh about!

Hey Scott - happy new year to you. Awesome shirt! 1 star is gracious, 0.5 / 5 sounds more like it!!

Lack of testing!... and the Dr Tim’s waste away gel pack did too good of job as the additional deep bacteria strain consumed the nitrate alongside existing acro colony consumption.

Lots of fish biomass and food are in the system, but likely near zero nitrate as it would be very quickly consumed.

I’ve been skimming less and less, skimmers off maybe half the day now. I’d recommend to reefers who have low nutrients to not run their skimmers 24/7.

Interesting. I've been upping carbon dosing (vinegar) over the last 5 weeks to bring nitrates down. Also some MB7. I let nitrates get away from me with expired test kit. Old kit reading 10 while new kit reads 50. Now down to 5-10 but I chum feed a lot of fat fish. So I don't sweat NO3 much.

And any impact on PO4 from Waste Away? That would really spook me. I have been dosing some trisodium phosphate to counter the carbon and bacteria dosing. Losing PO4 has gotten me in dino trouble before.
