My overflow is LOUD. Like, I can't hear my PC loud!

I've tweaked it as advised in online guides and videos, the water is a mm below the overflow pipe but doesn't seem to be doing much!

Is the water loud in the actual overflow or in the downpipe? By overflow pipe do you mean the primary or the emergency overflow pipe?

Did you create a siphon in the overflow box or are you just letting the water fall down? Most people have loud water as they dont create a siphon or they dont adjust the gate valve and let water fall too fast

Hmm, I'm not sure, it sounds like it's coming from the box itself but I guess is likely where the water is going down the pipe?
I don't believe I created a syphon, I wasn't aware that was a thing I needed to do! I had just filled the tank with water and turned everything on and then tweaked the valve

How do I do the syphon?

heres a site that explains the entire plumbing system, the herbie system.

Basically the reason for the loud sound is with just the water falling down it traps air in it which makes the sound. with a siphon no air will get sucked in and no sound will occur.

I would just search up a good video on how to create a syphon, a bit hard to explain how to do it. But the simple way I did it was the fill up the tank and let water go into the sump. close the gate valve and than let water fill up the over flow box to the top. Than turn on the return pump as soon as you do that slowly open the gate valve and than adjust it to create a siphon. make sure that there is always water to the top of the overflow box

THank you for that :)
