Hey all. I just received my Waterbox 100.3plus and was and still am extremely excited. The stand was a breeze and the tank while gorgeous in all aspects has something that is concerning to me. My eyes are automatically drawn to them and I think it looks terrible. While all 3 sides are viewed the front and left panel are viewed the most and this cannot be normal. Their response was

“Thanks for sending us these videos and photos. We can see that the lighting of the "slits" is caused from our "floating" aquarium style. This is how we have the tank flush with the cabinet doors and also the tank is not making direct contact with cabinet on the seams. As such light has the ability to reflect/refract down glass and to the seams. The silicone is not laser cut like the glass so there can be small imperfections that show on the edges. Glass magnifies everything so even a .5mm (or .00019") variance would be magnified to look of something much larger. The seams are completely filled in with silicone and undergo vigorous water testing to ensure they have no issue that would be a concern of integrity of longevity. We 100% stand behind our product and hope this makes a bit more sense to what you are seeing.”

Is this normal for your tanks?

I don’t believe it to be a hazard, but it is far from the quality I was expecting with a good chunk of money invested in this purchase.

Can you put strip of electrical tape on the bottom glass edge? Or something like flexidip just on that edge. It looks about like my 100.3, but doesn’t bother me. I don’t see it as a quality issue, just what happens with this floating type of stand.

Typical corporate jumbo. They don't tell you up front and try to make you sound dumb when you question them.

Thanks for the post, just made my "will not by from" list.

I have 2 of them the only time it looks like that for me is if a little water splashes out and gets caught under the edge kind of like a reflection. When I wipe it off after opening the doors it goes away. if you are seeing it all the time I would think it to be slightly odd.

I will see what that does tonight. Really itching to get it wet, but wasn’t happy with how it looks. I can’t imagine this is normal and acceptable. Aside from this, everything with Waterbox has been amazing. The sump, stand, and tank aside from this is gorgeous.

Looking at mine a bit more it is pretty similar, maybe not quite as much but hard to tell since it’s wet. I think their explanation is true, I can feel slight differences in the silicone, but it’s not much. I think you could probably run a razor over the flat part to get it all the same or paint/tape it based off what I noticed on mine.

We are glad to see that you are still excited for your Waterbox!

We never once want to make you feel as if we are trying to make you feel 'dumb' when we explain an answer to a question, so please know that this is not our intention. As we had discussed, the light you are seeing reflecting through due to the floating glass look. As a reminder, most tanks sit on top of a piece of glass, but our paneling is sealed edge to edge. Because of the way the light is transmitted through the glass, the silicone trim is visible when under certain lighting.

We want to reassure you that once substrate and water are added to your display aquarium, this will not be so bright and noticeable.

We hope you enjoy your new setup, and welcome to the Waterbox family!

I, too, was not thrilled with this visual aspect of my Waterbox 100.3

For me, I prefer bare-bottom aquariums because I enjoy high flow and SPS corals. I did not add sand to my aquarium, and the visual disturbances that you are seeing in your seams are apparent when looking at mine as well. Unfortunately, it's just something that I have tried to look past when viewing my aquarium.

Feel free to check out my build thread, which is linked to in my signature if you would like to see another Waterbox 100.3 experience.

Never notice this on mine, going to take a look once I get home. Hahaa.
