waterfall noise because sump is in basement

just git my 30 by 30 cube up and cycling. It is in my bedroom and the pump was making too much noise so now its in the basement.

now there is additional noise because the water falls an additional 5' to the sump in the basement.

I added a valve to the end of the drain to limit flow and had the water back up the pipe to reduce noise it worked but i cant seem to get it where the tank wont fill up with water.

any ideas on how to get it to be quiet?

Try filter socks or implement some bend in the plumbing to quite it.

i highly recommend you remove the valve from the drain line, that's a high risk. things you can do to quiet the drain are: micron sock the drain end, increase you drain pipe diameter, make sure drain line has nice downward angles not just straight down, get a better standpipe design, decrease water flow to an acceptable range, make sure air goes down with water at top of standpipe, make sure drain pipe isn't submerged in sump. Is it a megaflow designed overflow box or custom? what size pump do you have pushing water back up to tank?
