Nuvo 40G

Hydor Koralia Evolution Aquarium Circulation Pump 750G-850G

Hydor Koralia Nano Aquarium Circulation Pump 425 GPH

Hydor Controller running on 7min cycle each pump

So my tank seems to be going great but im worried about my pump placement, not sure where to put them or where to place them for optimal flow. I was thinking of maybe moving one to the back wall but im worried to put the magnet underwater. Is it possible that I maybe have too much flow?

Sorry if this is in the wrong area

I've never had under a 75 gallon, but if it were me I would take the bigger one you have in the back right corner and switch them......try putting the big one up front there kind of at the bottom just barely pointing up and the small one in the back right corner towards the top. Unless you have decent surface irritation with an overflow than I would put the small one in the back right corner a little bit lower than where the big one is now so you make sure to get some flow behind the rock work.....

Corals' morphology is adapted to a certain amount of water flow. A good example is Pocillopora meandrina - they usually have multiple c-shaped branches covered with speed breakers (called verrucae.) Mature specimens, at one time, were considered difficult to impossible to keep in captivity - most likely due to the difficulty of replicating violent surf within an aquarium. But to your point - direct flow on a coral is usually not good. Most corals will do quite well at water velocities of 4 to 6 inches per second. Perhaps the easiest way to estimate this velocity is observation of small bubble movement.

Keep it simple and keep things stable! Water flow can be tricky sometimes but for your 40 gallon, those two powerheads plus your return sounds like plenty to me! Play around with it but be mindful to place corals where they seem happy with the flow that is best for you.....

Thats great idea ill switch them, I woke up this morning to my Kenya tree on the floor, not sure if it was the flow or a hermit.. im guess it was the flow.

Thats kinda where I had mine to begin with than I switched them and has really helped.....I have a small one like you do and the tank did well too when I put the small ph on the back glass to kind of randomize the flow a little bit....but since you have a return back there you should be good....also, when you find that "sweet spot" for each coral, I bought some regular super glue and just glued the frags down that I couldn't stick in hopes in the live rock..really helps from them falling over or a invertebrates knocking then down.....I have had two ultimate ko palythoas now, they are my favorite kind. But the last two times I got a little polyp in on a frag, the same hermit crab ate them both! Needless to say I don't have hermits anymore! Lol buuuuut you have a nice looking tank man! There will be ups and downs and sometimes feel like throwing your hands up and wanting to upgrade at the same time. But keep your head up and get on here and ask many questions!

Looks good man, and if your clowns like to play in the current like mine did when I first started up my tank, than they will love you forever lol
