This will be the resurrection of my picotope. I had bought it because my OG nanocube 12 sprung a leak a few years back right before I went to Hawaii so it was a quick fix for all my corals. Low and behold I come back from Hawaii half of the water had evaporated and all my livestock was gone! Thanks to my wife haha! She knew better but oh well. Here's my entry photo, I have a simplistic build in mind and being "exofriendly." Just trying to figure out what LED route to go...

Thanks everyone and good luck to you too. I'm trying to gather up supplies today and the following weeks. Maybe cash in our that Father's day special with Ledtric but they don't have the full spectrum par38 bulb in stock right now.

This brings the build to $65.49 for now. I know it's the livestock that has a $500 dollar cap but this is just for my own sake.

I was looking at my electrical bill from Southern California Edison and I pay $0.08205 per kilowatt hour. I am going to see how much it's going to cost to run my picotope build and compare the growth of the frags in there to see if I can meet or exceed their growth rate + profitability is more than it costs to run the tank. Does this make sense to anyone?

Also, you only have a price limit on coral I believe so you don't have to take into account the cost of anything else.

Here it is 3 coats later. Not bad for my first time doing this. The last picture is just me using an Ecoxotic 12" stunner strip just for show. Still undecided if I'm going barebottom or not. Hope to have water in it soon.

Just ordered some Vida Rock by Cerameco. This stuff is made in the USA and I always try to support products made right here. This is also helping my tank to be more ecofriendly by not picking rock harvested from the ocean. Sure I could use dry rock, but I have had problems with it leaching phosphates into my tanks. I ordered this exact one from their bonsai line.

I can't wait to get this in my tank!

I can't wait to get this over my build. Sure it's coming along slowly but I'm calculating everything to be as easy going as I can make it.

Here is a breakdown of power usage for what I am using or plan to use on this tank:
Ledtric Full Spectrum Par38 - 18 watts
Nano Koralia- 3 watts
Some 25 watt heater- 25 watts
Either a AC50 at 6 watts or an Eheim liberty at 2.5 watts
So we have 18 watts x 6 hours= 108 watts per day for lighting. Either 34 watts x 24 hours= 816 or 30.5 watts x 24 hours= 732 watts for filtration and heating. I currently pay $0.0825 Kwh, so to run this tank daily it will cost between $0.069-$0.076 or about $2.07-$2.28 a month. Hopefully the corals will grow fast so I can frag and pay for the running costs and make some profit.
