While having some delicious watermelon with my kids I was thinking about how some people feed lettuce to their tangs and some have talked about apples and bananas etc.

So naturally i cut a thin slice of melon and tossed it into my kids tank. Red tail trigger went nuts for it and almost ate the entire piece himself minus what the yellow tang and red coris wrasse managed to steal. So i threw a piece into my tank as well. Everything went crazy for it even my copper band butterfly which only eats frozen and black worms normally.

Just thought it was entertaining. Hoping it doesn't bind anyone up. Please excuse the extremely dirty glass lol.

That's neat! I read of people who put things like... soymilk, orange juice, other human foods into their tanks for their nutrition content and to replace other elements into the water; next time i'll try this too

Interesting.

BTW, what's the wrasse that looks kind of splotchy and has the dark eyespot on the dorsal fin? I'm thinking some kind of Halichoeres.

1. Great tank

2. Thanks for sharing!

Yup its a Timor wrasse. Good luck finding one it took me the better part of a year. Great wrasse though. Actually saved him from a jump.

Awesome, I'll have to try and see if my little aquatic friends like watermelon.

Thanks for sharing!

That's so funny that none of mine will touch bananas! Lately our bananas are not very tasty, so I wonder if that affects it. Your bananas are probably yummy.

Amazing I never would have thought they would like that ,I'll have to try it out.

That's the reason I love this site. Learn something new every time I start reading. Your tank is beautiful and very amazing.

Most of my fish love bananas, esp. my foxface. Will have to try watermelon sometime. :D

I noticed you had a long nosed butterfly in the tank....... do you have problems with him nipping or eating corals? I had one once it ate my Atlantic anemone one tentacle at a time!
