Waterproof Multiplex Board - Questions

I have a 22 gal Aquamaxx rimless aquarium for which I need a 12” x 36” cut of waterproof multiplex board for leveling purposes. I’m no woodworker/carpenter, so I’m looking for advice on how best to do this on a modest budget. How thick should it be, and how best to waterproof it? Need to hear about your DIY that worked for you!

Usually where you get your wood they'll offer a cutting service for a small fee. I'm not sure how thick you'll need it or what the best method of waterproofing it is, but you may also want one of those foam levelling mats to place under the tank.

Yes, thank you! I ordered a piece of wood tonight that I’ll pick up tomorrow. I do have a foam leveling mat under the tank already.

Sounds like you're all set! The place where you're picking up the wood may also have some waterproofing recommendations.

I went down to my local granite & marble store and bought a remnant of granite slightly larger than the stand (about 3 in larger on 3 sides and 6 in larger on one end). The overlap protects the stand and floor from the inevitable drips. The slightly larger overlap at one end gives me a place under which to build my controller board to place the dosing pumps, etc. and still have it covered. It is very attractive and perfectly waterproof.
