wattage for metal halide on 75 gallon

what type of wattage would i need for a metal halide on a 75 gallon? i am thinking 250, but if i really need 400 i could get it.

I have a 75 with a outer orbit 250 hqi and T5 combo.Its alot of light and would not work without my chiller.If I had to do it all over I would go with a good reflector with SE type bulb and T5's or VHO's.I think all T5's would look just awsome also.I think 400 would be a over kill and the heat would be real bad.

I think 2-250watt hallides would be perfect for a 75gal. You could add a 2 or a 4 bulb 54watt T5 retro for actinics or just to add more color and light.

would one of either of these work for it? i am wanting just a standard reef setup. I think I am gonna do my dwarf lionfish in my 29 gallon

Are you in the chattanooga TN Area? Not sure, but for some reason I thought you were.

If so I have similiar fixtures to the ones you linked, plus some newer SE in luminarc reflectors. If you'd like to come over and see the different lights in action different bulb spectrums etc let me know.

I'f i'm off on your location sorry. My personal opinion would be to go SE over DE. 250s should be fine.

I was wondering the same thing. I found a 36" with (1) 150w hqi halide, (4) 39w t5 ho, and moon lighting. Do you think this is enough to light and grow corals my 75 if I hang it?
