Which one is better?
Thinking of purchasing for my 220 gallon tank, don't know which way to go at all!!!

apples to oranges.
the gyre is going to move a ton more water than the wav pumps but you lose a little controllability and they're a less flexible with the mounting options. wav's are more adjustable, come with all the perks of the apex and come with a 1link which imo is a rip-off but i wish i had one.
if this is your only pump in that 220g the gyre will suit you better but in reality you could probably use 2 gyres AND 2 wav's.
i personally run 2 gyre xf250's in a 4ft 120g standard and the water moves pretty good but even i've considered adding a couple of wav's on the back wall just to solve the dead spots.

I switched from Gyres to Wavs and couldn't be any happier if that means anything. I was having motor issues with both Gyres. What was initially a bonus using the Gyres (total tank water movement) turned into a problem when trying to place lower flow coral.

Wav's are Neptune's powerheads.

I will probably go Wavs....I like the control factor and integration with Apex.
Probably gonna get one of those new Apex COR-15 Main Pumps soon too!

I was looking at the Cor also :)

I'm running 2 waves at the 'back' wall of a 4.5' 160g peninsula, mounted below and outboard of the overflow (also on the back wall). I chose 2 waves for the flexibility of flow control and current generation along the tank...and I'm running an Apex...with a bit of effort, I have been able to create two Top & Bottom return currents alternating side to side...and not moving the gravel. This pattern causes the LPS/Soft coral to 'wave' towards the back of the tank, giving the illusion of a current running from the 'open' end of the peninsula back into the wall. Sorry, I did not give any serious consideration to the Gyre and cannot speak to their strength(s).
