So I am setting up my old school perfecto 125. 72" long...

Curious if anyone recommends a certain brand or model specifics for the MP's or any other ones I may consider..

I don't plan to upgrade after this tank, So I don't need to go bigger than necessary. Mixed coral tank. Bimini/Fuji mixed sand.

Running a canister at the moment until I get my custom sump built and operational.

It seems the MP40's are the popular... but are they overkill for a 125 and if so, what are more viable options?

I wouldn’t think MP40s would be overkill at all. If you are finding the current is too much for your livestock and corals you can also dial them back and run 50% or 75%..?

Well that's my question in essence... Can I save some money and go with smaller (less expensive) jets/wave makers that will suffice my tank's length.

That’s a hard question to answer...it would depend on how much flow you’re looking for and how many wave makers you’re looking to add.

You could probably get enough flow with the MP10s if you have a couple of them. They are rated for tank sizes 2.5-50+. If you have the money, I would go with the MP40s as they will give you more variability with flow and are rated for tank sizes 50-500!

Might be worth pricing it out and seeing how many you would want. I prefer to have one across the front of my tank at a moderate flow rate and one in the back at a higher flow rate. However, that being said I only have a 40breeder.

Absolutely. People go with the Vortechs, not only because they work well, but because it keeps extra cords out of the tank and they are easy to maintain or replace just a wet side instead of the entire pump.

A great pump is the Sicce DC pump. It's extremely small, moves a ton of water, and half the price of the others. It just has wide vents on the sides. I have the AC version (Sicce Xtreme, before the DC came out) and you wouldn't believe how small the pumps are. The DC just encompasses all of the speeds from all the different AC models they have. If you don't need adjustable speed, you can go with the AC versions as an option.

The hopes are to have 1 on each side facing each other (1 back on high, 1 on front set to medium. plus a nano in the center facing forward. (Where my softies will be)

That sounds like a good plan to me!

Its honestly a science trying to figure out placement/angle to make sure the sand stays put but you still get enough flow and minimize dead spots

I guess I just don't wanna dish out $400 just for circulation if there is a less expensive option that suits.;Greedy;Inpain

I’m right there with ya haha! Just bit the bullet and got $625 in lights. I’ve been looking at Current Orbit wave makers. Heard a few good things about them and some people on here have them and like them. They are controllable and much cheaper than the MPs. You might want to take a look at these

I will do that, thanks!

I just bought 2 Hydra26 Hd's that came in the mail today, time to get a PAR mapping of the tank done and then its scaping time and coral placement!!

Stoaked.

I only have the New 125 running half the tank with a frag rack and colonies on the sand bed for now, the dark side of the tank is full of rock... My old 55 (where everything a week ago) is bare besides 1 tonga branch and a sandbed, QT'ing and copper treating my fish before moving them to the 125. Waiting on a fallow period in the 125. Tang got ich in the old tank. No real befores and afters, but here is my build thread...
