I’m considering an IceCap Gyre 1k, wondering if it’ll be too much flow. Video shows you can run it with only one half the blades if needed.

Right now I’ve got a Koralia 240 but it’s constant flow and very directional. Looked into the controller, but that seems pretty limited.

When the Koralia’s on my new clowns ride the current, which looks fun but also exhausting. :)

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

(BTW, for those about to post that the tank is too small for clowns, they’re very small and won’t stay in this tank forever.)

The gyre may not fit. If it does , it will be pretty tight.

If it were me, I get two jebao ow-10s. Or mYbe two bigger pumps (to include maybe 2x gyres) if i wanted an SPS fore reef system.

I've got a single MP10 on my Biocube 14. A big plus for me on the nano is that the motor is outside the tank, so it doesn't take up precious space. Depending on what sides you normally view the tank you could put it on a back or side and get nice varied flow throughout the day.

I wrestled with this as well with my 13.5. I ended up with two of the Korelia 240's to just try it out before going big. If I went the wave maker route I always had them as backup. I ended up placing them to produce a pseudo gyre effect and actually really like the outcome. There are no dead spots and really if I had gone bigger I think there would be too much flow (for what I do). But, there are some good dual powerhead wave options out there that might be good.

Here is a quick video of what it looks like.

Thanks @tinkwithanr. I looked at that, but I think it’s a bit out of my price range. :-(

@OhDumb, Am I correct in that you have one on the side left rear, kind of facing in, and one on the back right, just below the overflow, facing front? Are they running together or opposite? And what’s controlling them? And how long are the intervals? Thanks!

Yo get the Coral Box RN-1!
It’s similar to a MP10 but will save you $100+.
I just got one on my 7 Gallon Nano and it works like a charm. Come with a controller that pretty much has the same modes as MP10s, has a feeding mode, also you can change the power from 1-20.
Another cool feature about this is you can have I believe 6 channels that you can program throughout the day to run different modes, for instance I run plus majority of the day and the have one of the other modes come on for a hour or two to change things up, then later at night I have it turn off to give everything a break, really cool little pump!
Also if I didn’t mention it’s smaller then an MP10, although it does have a wire in the tank I think it’s cleaner looking!!

Here’s a picture for size reference, the tanks 12x12x11

Yes, you are correct with placement as I did it to mimic a gyer flow around the tank. I don't have them on a wave maker. The return pump is on the front right and I have it blowing diagonally back towards the left pump. This creates an overall circular flow pattern around the tank and the surface pushes toward the overflow. There is constant turbulence as the flow patterns from each power head collide with the return in the middle. The way I have it gives me nice flow across the top and right side with some calmer areas on the left. I had them originally setup both blowing towards the front, but it was too much flow along the bottom and kept kicking up sand.

I really was considering a wave maker solution, but once I dialed these guys in I was happy. I figured if I didn't like it I at least had a couple of power heads to mix salt or whatever. But, if I did do a wave maker I might want to up the pump size or maybe add a third? I'm not sure one of these could move the whole tank very well if oscillating. But, you can always give it a test.

@Rex that looks totally awesome! Thanks – will check it out!

I was gonna suggest the corl box or the reefbreeders rebrand same pump but with more warranty from reefbreeders...they look like great pumps with a wide flow pattern and lots of flow so when you upgrade the pumps will still work.

I am thinking of a pair for my 90 cube..
