i know this is probably worn out by now but I can’t find an old thread... so here goes nothing..

I’m looking for a low budget controllable pump capable of 300-500 gph. No frills needed. Something I can dial in to the right flow for my tank. I will entertain every option.

I still use maxi jets that have never let me down. So almost anything will be an upgrade. Thanks in advance.

My 2 year old $300.00 maxspect gyre is having issues. I just put my trusty $20.00 Marineland maxi jet 600 back in. I honestly think it will work fine and it is a lot cheaper. Controllable pumps are great, but I am discovering that sometimes basic equipment works just as well and is easier to maintain. The gyre was nice, but a pain to clean.

Im using Jeboa PP8 pumps and and really liking them so far. While I would libe to have Tunze or Vortec pumps the price is very high for me at least. I have been in the aqaurium hobby for 20 some years and was in the industry for about 5. After many years, many aquarium and many pumps and powerheads, I have come to the personal conclusion that pumps are a wear item. They will wear out and fail in time so I save money and buy the $50 Jeboa.
