With most systems it's best to have more than 1. In your case, maybe 3 or 4 depending on stocking. 2 should be on either end of the tank facing each other. Both pointed slightly upwards while 1/3 of the way down the glass.I have a wave maker for my six foot tank but it seems to just blow the sand away any ideas what I'm doing wrong I have it at the top but still makes a mess
Thank you for your feedback much appreciatedWith most systems it's best to have more than 1. In your case, maybe 3 or 4 depending on stocking. 2 should be on either end of the tank facing each other. Both pointed slightly upwards while 1/3 of the way down the glass.
You're looking to ensure there are no dead spots in the tank. All while creating surface agitation and not blowing sand around. This will be generally what you should strive for and increase / decrease from that sweet spot.
Thanks for your help tank is a year old I have rocks and am pointing it up would the wave maker be to powerful?.are you pointing it down at the sand? Try pointing it up
Is it a new tank? New sand takes a while to absorb water and pack in, it won't blow around so easy after a while, but for now, point the powerhead up.
Are there any rocks in your tank? If there are no rocks, then its easy for sand to blow around, adding rocks to the tank will help hold the sand down.

It is a cheap one cost me 20 dollars from Facebook marketplace and I can't turn it down it blows all my plants around and makes a mess I have turned it off .it's pretty big in size so I will look out for what you sajested mate.thanks for taking the time for your helpIt sounds like it's too much which is surprising for a 6 foot tank, what's the gph rating it has? I assume it's not adjustable or you would've turned it down already. I bought cheaper ones for years to save money and was never really happy with any of them until I got an Ecotech. It's adjustable, the wiring is outside the tank and I got the battery backup for power outages. It's not cheap but I've tried saving money buying cheaper equipment and end up getting rid of it because I wasn't happy with it. I could've put that money towards what I wanted to begin with but instead I tried saving money using a cheaper product. If you're not in a position to buy an Ecotech there's other adjustable wavemakers out there and you can always pick one up used. If you're only using one for a 6 foot tank I'd consider picking up two and setting them at opposite ends of the tank, if they're adjustable it would allow you to dial the flow in exactly where you want it.
I love red sea wavemakers. Have one in my 70 and in my 125. In my 125 I have mine pointed forward with different waves about halfway up my glass. It doesnt disturb my sandbed at all and Ive got new and very fine sand in thereI have a wave maker for my six foot tank but it seems to just blow the sand away any ideas what I'm doing wrong I have it at the top but still makes a mess
